In the early 60s Jaguar decided to build 18 “Special GT E-Type Cars”. These were basically racing derived road cars that were designed to compete in the European Le Mans race. In order to lower the cars weight they were built using aluminum where possible which amounted to a reduction in bodywork and engine weight of around 250 pounds over a standard E-Type.
