This year, Chevrolet trimmed down its trim levels to two from five for the previous model, and it made some minor adjustments as well. The base front-wheel-drive version now has 220 horsepower instead of 213. An all-wheel drive option now adds 300 hp. All Equinox EVs can tow up to 1,500 pounds, which is plenty for a small trailer and well above what many competing EVs are rated to do.

It’s a joy to drive, and its handling is more refined than you might expect for an SUV with so much extra mass. The battery pack adds a bit of heft to the chassis, but soft damping and competent body control make it feel like less of a burden than some other electric vehicles do. Acceleration is smooth and consistent, though it doesn’t quite match the responsiveness of a gasoline-powered Equinox.
The cabin is quiet, and the backseat is spacious and comfortable enough for three adults. The cargo hold is fairly big as well, although rivals have more space if you fold the seats flat. Chevy did a great job of including lots of places to store small personal items. There’s even room for rear-facing car seats, a bonus for families.
